Sweet corn and chicken soup had the consistency of snot and didn't have much flavour. Everything else good. Batter on the honey chicken was a bit soggy but still tasty

Order 4 vegetables and 1 meat for $17 takeaway. No card surcharge.
It was $25 buffet only for dine in for dinner so only options was takeaway as we weren't that hungry.
Beef was a little dry. Sambar coconut was dry and fragrant. Chilli was slightly spicy and sour. Dhal was large pieces and more on the dry side. Cashew curry was a little bland. Okra was crunchy. Overall taste was ok but nothing exceptional. Portions were really generous though for $17. The $15 for 1 meat and 3 vegetables was much smaller.
Think it's $20 for lunch buffet. No papadums for buffet but had string hoppers, hoppers, kotu roti, 3 meat curries, 6 vegetable curries, and bread.

Ordered here many times and my favourite has got to be the fat wrap with mixture of both chicken and meat with hot chips+ adding extra meat tastes delicious, couldn't fault it also the chips are mad! I have tasted many kebabs and this place has a different taste to the rest highly recommend

I’ve dined at Nanyang Express in Chinatown Melbourne multiple times and can confidently say that the food is consistently excellent and well-prepared. The Hainanese Chicken is usually tender and flavorful, though it can occasionally be slightly undercooked during peak hours. My personal favorites include the Kolo Mee series, Chee Cheng Fun, Braised Pork Knuckle on Rice, Chicken Chop Rice or Noodles, all deserving of an 8-9/10. The Sarawak Laksa is decent (7/10), but as someone from Sarawak, I may have very high standards!
The service is great, especially considering how busy it gets. The staff are welcoming and helpful, even under pressure. Cleanliness is a strong point—utensils, tables, and even the toilet are well-maintained (I’d rate the toilet hygiene 6.5/10).
The atmosphere is lively and enjoyable, although it can get noisy at times due to some loud customers. Waiting times are reasonable, but finding a table can sometimes be a challenge, especially when other patrons behave unreasonably (e.g., arguing over tables).
Overall, Nanyang Express offers a delightful experience with authentic flavors and solid service. Highly recommend trying their Fish Fillet Noodle Soup, Kaya Toast, Soft-Boiled Eggs, and Teh Tarik too!
