Recommend this no frills dumpling house that also serves many other Chinese noodles, rice, and soup dishes. This popular restaurant offers huge variety of meat options coupled with noodle or rice. Restaurant was full even till late evening. Everyone loved the dishes. Warm family style dining. Prices very reasonable for large portions.

I’ve dined at Nanyang Express in Chinatown Melbourne multiple times and can confidently say that the food is consistently excellent and well-prepared. The Hainanese Chicken is usually tender and flavorful, though it can occasionally be slightly undercooked during peak hours. My personal favorites include the Kolo Mee series, Chee Cheng Fun, Braised Pork Knuckle on Rice, Chicken Chop Rice or Noodles, all deserving of an 8-9/10. The Sarawak Laksa is decent (7/10), but as someone from Sarawak, I may have very high standards! The service is great, especially considering how busy it gets. The staff are welcoming and helpful, even under pressure. Cleanliness is a strong point—utensils, tables, and even the toilet are well-maintained (I’d rate the toilet hygiene 6.5/10). The atmosphere is lively and enjoyable, although it can get noisy at times due to some loud customers. Waiting times are reasonable, but finding a table can sometimes be a challenge, especially when other patrons behave unreasonably (e.g., arguing over tables). Overall, Nanyang Express offers a delightful experience with authentic flavors and solid service. Highly recommend trying their Fish Fillet Noodle Soup, Kaya Toast, Soft-Boiled Eggs, and Teh Tarik too!

This restaurant in South Melbourne is like a home to us, with all their staff including the kitchen crew mingling with us like a family. They’d even ask us the reason why we’ve been too busy for few weeks but not visiting them. This truly means the world to us who support them & their dishes wholeheartedly. And yes, we love all their Malaysian dishes as always.

Absolute amazing place to come for a hot and delicious freshly cooked meal. Located in a lifting shopping strip with plenty of parking. The owner was super friendly and such a helpful guide when exploring the menu. As first time customers he recommended meals to us and explained them well. The food was made fresh and was delicious. It did not take long to arrive at our table. The owner was friendly and professional the whole time explaining how to go about eating and adding to the soup to better suite our taste. The whole experience was amazing and leaves you wanting to come back for more. Will defiantly be coming back and I would highly recommend it when you have time to stop by!
