I was recommended to try this place by my friend and I had kind of expectations from Eastgate because of good reviews as well. But I am disappointed with quality of food.
I tried single seafood set $20 which includes one piece Hoki fish, small chips, one piece of prawn and 2 pieces of squid. This set comes with a can of drink. When I start eating Hoki fish, it falls apart into many pieces and some part of fish are still cold. I need spoon to eat this fish and chips.
Fried Squid is difficult to eat and Battered prawn one piece is just so so. I think the way they battered seafood really has to improve.
Best thing from this set might be just chips. I coughed after my dinner (it could be because of can drink). Staffs are friendly and they do not control lemon wages like other fish and chips stalls. They gave proper box instead of paper for packaging. Not a place that I will be visiting again.

Honestly did not believe the small number of All 5 star reviews on here, but I can now say that it is all correct, this is one of the best fish and chips in Perth at this price/level.
Overall 9/10 given the price.
Good thin light batter, oil is of good quality, no more oil than is necessary for deep fried food. Overall taste is "classic" but good quality. Inside fish, squid, etc all of good quality, not dry or rubbery. Salt level for me is perfect. Cardboard packaging is good quality and strong, not cheap and flimsy. Service/cooking speed is good/reasonable.
Would definitely recommend.

Staying at the hotel across the road for a work gig, so unfortunately won't be back anytime soon. But they've set a new standard for what a seafood basket can be. The fried mussels are a real treat, but the overall proportion of seafood to chips is just unheard of. You West Australians are a privileged bunch.

The best fish and chips we've EVER had in Australia!
Perfect batter, and great price for the quality of fresh hot fish and chips you are given. Worth every cent.
We will be making this our regular

Fish is as good as cicellero's and sometimes you get really generous proportions (so much that it can't even fit in the box) but the chips are sometimes a bit stale, probably because they were frozen for too long before being cooked. Would be nice if they could properly de-shell the prawns completely as I'm a little allergic to the tail shell but no biggie as it probably comes in premade like that. Asked for chicken salt, didn't get any unfortunately.
They cook right in front of you but the workplace doesn't look exactly safe when its busy as there are hot baskets going back and fourth with a guy prepping the food, if he turned around he would've been burnt as the one cooking held the basket low. Well I'm sure most hot fryer kitchens are like that
Minimum "meal" price is about $14 but you can get individual "snacks" far cheaper than that. They do specials every month and rotate minor specials daily, so its good to check back once in a while if you're really into fish and chips.
They have sports gambling ads to watch and you can learn about new zealand fish with jpeg artifact AI upscaled text that you can't read at all while waiting. I wouldn't eat in personally because the seats aren't comfortable, best do take-aways here.
If you're looking for excellent fish and squids, this is definitely the place to go for and the prices are (at least compared to some other fish/chips) not that expensive, 5/5 stars for this alone but everything else is unfortunately a little bit lacking.
