Tried a few fish & chips in the area. Come back to this one as it's the best so far. It's an extra 5 minutes in the car from me, but it's worth it. Decent portions, which is a big plus. Love the fisherman's basket! The batter is seasoned well and v tasty. Also, the curry is rich, thick, and delicious. Mushy peas were stone cold, unfortunately, but after a quick 'nuke,' really tasty. This is my go-to for now, as long as the standard is consistent. Keep it up, Rocks! So far, you rock 💪

Satisfaction with Room for Refinement
As a dedicated lover of fish and chips and someone who has enjoyed visiting Quinns Fish and Chip Shop multiple times, I feel compelled to share my thoughts on the establishment. Over time, I have seen changes in ownership and the consequential shifts in quality, service, and overall experience. While I am largely satisfied with my visits and the improvements made, I do believe there is still some room for fine-tuning certain aspects of the operation. However, I want to acknowledge that the progress under new ownership has not gone unnoticed, and I appreciate the commitment to bettering the customer experience.
One of the most notable improvements I have observed is the quality of the curry sauce. Previously, the sauce had a distinct taste of the powder mix, which often suggested that it had not been cooked thoroughly. This left an aftertaste that was less than desirable and slightly detracted from the overall meal. However, on my most recent visit, I was pleased to find that this issue had been addressed. The sauce no longer had that raw powdery taste, which significantly enhanced my dining experience. This small but crucial improvement has made a positive impact, and I commend the staff for their attention to detail in refining the recipe.
Another element that keeps me coming back to Quinns is the generous portion sizes. A good fish and chip shop should always ensure that customers feel they are getting value for money, and Quinns has generally excelled in this regard. However, I must stress the importance of maintaining consistency. While my own experiences with portion sizes have been satisfying, I have heard from friends that their portions have not always been as generous. Ensuring that every customer receives a fair and equal portion will help solidify Quinns’ reputation as a reliable go-to spot for fish and chips.
A defining characteristic of exceptional fish and chips is the batter. The perfect batter should be light, crispy, and golden, providing a delightful contrast to the soft, flaky fish inside. While Quinns has performed well in this area, I believe that maintaining a consistently crispy batter across all battered items will help elevate the establishment above its competitors. There have been occasions where I found the batter to be a little too soft or lacking the crunch that makes fish and chips truly satisfying. Keeping a close eye on frying times and batter preparation can make all the difference in ensuring a consistently high standard.
One of the few criticisms I have is the use of microwaves to heat food. As someone with an Irish background, I am deeply familiar with the chipper culture, and I understand the balance between minimising waste and maintaining quality. However, when an item comes out of the kitchen unnaturally hot and clearly microwaved, it detracts from the experience. Customers can tell when their food has been reheated this way, and it can sometimes affect the texture and taste. While I understand that certain circumstances may call for the use of a microwave, I strongly encourage Quinns to consider implementing a better system to ensure all food is served fresh without relying on microwaves. Perhaps alternative methods such as keeping items warm in heated displays could be explored to maintain the integrity of the food while reducing waste.
Despite the minor areas for improvement, I remain a satisfied customer of Quinns Fish and Chip Shop. The changes made under new ownership have had a positive impact, and I appreciate the effort put into refining the quality of food and service. The improvement in curry sauce was a particularly welcome change, and I am pleased to see attention being paid to customer feedback. With continued focus on consistency in portion sizes, batter quality, and a move away from microwave use, Quinns has the potential to become an even stronger establishment.
I will certainly continue to visit Quinns and recommend it to others who are looking for a satisfying fish and chip experience.
